Weekly Challenge #159: Top of the Morning to You!
This week’s Zentangle challenge is to do something inspired by St. Patrick’s Day.
St. Patrick’s Day is a quiet day in the Philippines. No big fanfare or parades. It usually falls during Lent. Although Lent’s solemnity has faded, I don’t think advertisers have found what would make St. Patrick’s Day celebrations appealing to Filipinos. That’s probably because each barrio (neighborhood) and town celebrate their patron saint’s feast day.
Finding something to use in the tangle was a bit of a challenge. I only know a few things about St. Patrick. He is the patron of Ireland. According to legends, he was the reason Ireland converted to Christianity. He would often use a shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity. There’s also a legend of him driving out snakes from Ireland. Those are the symbols I ended up using in the tangle.
