Revisiting a Childhood Memory

In the early 80’s, I lived in Bacolor, Pampanga. Both my grandparents had ancestral homes beside the church, though I lived on a farm much further away. During the Mt. Pinatubo eruption in 1991, both ancestral homes were buried in lahar. One was later dismantled and rebuilt as a museum, the other was unearthed and its parts bequeathed to relatives. The nearest landmark  was San Guillermo Parish Church.

Every week or so, my cousin and my older brother go to Pampanga to do some work for the family. We often stay at our office which is near the border of San Fernando and Bacolor, in San Isidro. So we hadn’t gone to Bacolor Town Proper in decades. On our last trip, we finally got to go to San Guillermo Parish Church and see how things have evolved since we were kids.
